DIY All Natural Body Butter

Want to hydrate, nourish and protect your skin all at once? Then you need to start using body butter.

Body butter is a thick, rich mixture—much thicker than standard lotion—that can be used anywhere on the body. Its benefits include providing moisture, helping to soothe burns and rashes, supplying skin with nutrients and forming a protective barrier between your skin and the big, bad outside world.

Making your own body butter is a fun project you can do right at home.

1 cup organic shea butter

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup almond oil

30 drops essential oil of your choice

1. Combine the shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler and heat until melted. Allow to cool for 30–40 minutes; it should still be slightly warm and melted.
2. Add the almond oil and essential oils; place in the freezer for 20–30 minutes until fairly solid.
3. Whip the solid mixture with a kitchen mixer for 5–8 minutes until it reaches the consistency of butter. Scrape the sides periodically with a spatula and continue whipping until it’s all mixed together. Store in a covered glass container or mason jar.
